Welcome to the forty-third installment of a weekly column where I get you up to speed on what I’m watching, reading, listening to, or catching up on as of late.
The folly of every generation lies in their belief that they were the ones who experienced life’s greatest spoils. The boomers are prone to opining about the glory days of the 50’s and 60’s: when you could buy a house for next to nothing, when jobs actually paid well, and when we all believed that the American Dream was something worth aspiring to. Millennials have become nostalgic for the late 90’s and early 2000’s, when even the most foul cultural detritus was at least earnest enough to be interesting. Give Gen Z ten years: if the planet’s still around and the sun hasn’t fried us all to a crisp by that point, or if our incompetent leaders haven’t led us to extinction, maybe they’ll be wistfully remembering the early days of TikTok.
